‘We have more possibilities available in each moment than we realise’
– Thich Nhat Hanh
I am passionate about the work I do in helping people to find greater authenticity and happiness by living in the moment and tapping into their fullest potential. I understand that in an ever changing, fast paced and stressful modern environment the importance of looking after mind as well as body is essential and I offer a calm, confidential and non-judgemental space to work through the many adverse and challenging situations that life offers up.
Psychotherapy and Counselling with Susan Stevens
I am a professionally qualified and registered Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I have had experience working both privately and within the NHS, most recently in an IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service working in CBT with adult anxiety difficulties and depression. I also have experience in a specialist NHS unit working with more severe psychologically diagnosed difficulties. CBT is a recommended treatment of the NICE Guidelines (National Institute of Health & Care Excellence). It is an evidence based practice and focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviours. It can help to deal with problems by teaching coping skills for managing them.
As well as seeing private clients at City Therapy Rooms, I also work in the city for a company specialising in the legal profession. Here I see corporate clients for weekly therapy sessions.
I provide psychodynamic, integrative and CBT therapy. I also have experience in practicing and teaching Mindfulness, both in groups and to individuals and Compassion Based Therapy. These therapies are excellent for developing self-improvement and well-being and I often use these techniques within my work to provide a more integrative working practice. I am also a trained life-coach practicing in Cognitive Behavioural Coaching.
In my personal life
I am a parent of four adult children and I have lived and worked in London and the home counties for most of my life. I have always been energised by working in the city, but also appreciate living in the Surrey Hills where I can truly enjoy the beauty of nature. It brings me a sense of calm and content that I bring to my practice and also a wisdom born out of time and experience. Before becoming a Psychotherapist I worked in Sales and Marketing in the city.
