Therapeutic Counselling with Steve
The relationship between us is a vital ingredient of the work, and my focus is always to provide a supportive, empathetic and trusting space in which you feel truly heard and safe to talk openly about personal issues. Through this authentic connection, self-acceptance, change and growth become achievable.
My integrative approach is informed by a number of therapeutic models: humanistic, psychodynamic, CBT, attachment, relational, mindfulness and existential. I believe this allows me to be flexible and alive to the needs and expectations of each unique individual I’m with, rather than having a ‘one size fits all’ approach. Most importantly, I will be fully present and engaged with you throughout the process.

My Background
I was inspired to train as a therapist after receiving invaluable help at a difficult stage of my life. Through injury I was confronted with having to give up my life as a professional musician, something which seemed unimaginable to me. Working with a counsellor gave me the opportunity to explore what was really going on in my life, to understand self-defeating unconscious patterns in my behaviour, find acceptance, make changes and start living again. What had felt devastating and limiting became my springboard for growth and a much more fulfilling life.

I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and am qualified in the following:
- Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, CPCAB
- Level 3 Certificate in Counselling, CPCAB
- Level 2 Certificate in Counselling, CPCAB
- Certificate of Proficiency BACP
- Certificate in Online and Telephone Counselling BACP
I also hold a BA Hons in English Literature with Social Sciences and a Teacher’s Diploma (LTCL) from Trinity College of Music.
My learning is ongoing, as I continually work to develop and deepen my knowledge and experience through further professional training.
I have worked as a counsellor for a number of agencies and charities. Currently, alongside my private practice, I work as a bereavement counsellor, helping people who are coming to terms with grief and loss.
