I offer therapy for the emotional challenges we all experience across our personal and professional lives.
Perhaps you feel lost, different to your peers, or lonely. Perhaps you’re struggling to recover from a difficult time, like a break-up or a redundancy. Perhaps a trauma feels overwhelming to process, leaving you feeling stuck. Or perhaps you feel trapped in a pattern, unable to stop repeating the choices you know make you unhappy. Therapy can help you understand these challenging thoughts and feelings and eventually move on from them.

Psychodynamic Relationship Therapy with Rosemary Pearson
How I can help
I offer you a space to share your thoughts and feelings without judgement.
Together, we can explore the aspects of your life that cause you stress and anxiety. We can understand the roots of any patterns you want to change. By understanding how your past affects your present, it’s possible to eventually change these patterns.
Areas I often work with
Relationships
Forming connections with others can bring great joy but it can also prove challenging.
You may notice you feel lonely in your relationship or taken over somehow. Conflict may be a regular part of your life, but it’s wearing you down, and you don’t know how to change it. Sometimes it can feel like you just don’t understand each other. Or maybe it’s hard for you to trust, perhaps having had your confidence broken in the past. Being abandoned can lead to deep fears of this happening again. Perhaps you’ve had these feelings before and are surprised to find yourself in this dynamic again.
You might be wondering:
“Why do I feel like this again?”
“Why can’t I meet someone?”
“Why is it so hard for us to get along?”
“Is my partner the right person for me?”
“Why do I feel attracted to someone else?”
Loneliness and isolation
Feeling lonely is something we can all experience from time to time but sometimes it feels deeply pain, and like it won’t go away. Maybe you feel you have no one to turn to, like no one understands you. This can feel very isolating.
Some feel on the fringe of groups and society, but struggle to find their place. Perhaps it feels like you just don’t fit in. For some, even if you’re surrounded by company, you still feel lonely.
You might be wondering:
“Why does no one understand me?”
“Where are my people?”
“Why don’t I fit in?”
“Why do I always feel lonely?”
Feelings of sadness or depression
Feelings of sadness can often be with us. Sometimes you can’t even put your finger on why you feel so sad, it’s just a background feeling that won’t go away. This feeling can also be understood as depression.
Some feel worried all the time, or anxious. Sometimes these feelings can become overwhelming, leading to suicidal thoughts.
You might be wondering:
“Why do I always feel so low?”
“How can I make my worries go away?”
“Why do I feel so different to everyone else?”
“I don’t want to die, but sometimes it feels like the only solution.”
Stress and pressure
Many find themselves juggling competing demands, perhaps including a busy job and a family. This can feel stressful, as you make sacrifices to satisfy these requirements.
Perhaps you feel guilty as you start to feel you’re doing nothing well. You may feel like you’ve taken on too much and now feel trapped. The pressure mounts and starts to feel overwhelming, perhaps leading to sleepless nights.
You might be wondering:
“How can I cope?”
“Why do I feel guilty all the time?”
“How can I improve my sleep?”
“Why have I taken on more than I can manage?”
Feeling lost or stuck
Perhaps you are reflecting on your life and feel you’ve made some of the wrong choices. If you feel lost or directionless, you can end up feeling stuck. This can feel even more stressful if you have a sense that your time is running out, as you get older. You may feel regret of your past, but unsure how to change your future.
You might be wondering:
“Why do I feel so lost?”
“How can I find my passion?”
“I have made the wrong choices, but I don’t know what the right ones are?”
“I don’t know how to change my life.”
How I work
The type of therapy I practise (psychodynamic) means we will look back at your life and try to understand how your early experiences may have shaped you today. I often see patterns emerge which can be linked back to family dynamics.
I will listen carefully to you, considering both your conscious concerns and unconscious thoughts. We can make quick decisions without consciously understanding why; I will seek to bring clarity to your unconscious thoughts.
Our exploratory work together can sometimes stir up difficult feelings. We will reflect carefully on these and try to process them in the consulting room, but this can be a challenging aspect of the work.
