Counselling is a safe space, an alliance, a place to explore, a place to grow, a place to heal; It’s not a quick fix, but a foot forward in a journey to your best self.
I believe that lasting change most often develops outside the sessions, putting words or thoughts from sessions into action.
I’m Kristin, an integrative mental health counsellor and registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Counselling with Kristin Crenshaw Harding (MBACP)
I’m originally from North Carolina, USA and have been living in London since 2016. From a young child, I have always been an empathetic and caring person, sensitive to other’s needs. A career that enabled me to help others was an obvious and natural path. I’ve always had a large interest in psychology, mental health, and overall wellness, which has led me to counselling.
As a mental health professional, I work collectively with my client to help navigate the highs and lows of life and what it means to be human. A therapeutic relationship can offer a professional and confidential space to take a break from the hustle and bustle of life and look introspectively at ourselves and our surroundings. Counselling is a safe space, an alliance, a place to explore, a place to grow, a place to heal; It’s not a quick fix, but a foot forward in a journey to your best self.
I also teach Yoga and have interests in all that yoga encompasses, a holistic mind-body connection, nature, & community. I am a volunteer school ambassador for NSPCC Childline.
Areas I work with:
I am an Integrative counsellor with a largely Humanistic base. I work with an “unconditional positive regard” for my clients. I support and encourage my clients to explore their past, current, and future to facilitate a greater understanding of themselves. A deeper examination into our lives and who we are can lead to a greater self-awareness and allow us to then focus on areas we’d like to improve.
I believe that lasting change most often develops outside the sessions, putting words or thoughts from sessions into action. Therefore, I may use Cognitive Behavioural techniques, such as keeping logs of thoughts or worries, or Solution-Focused techniques that work on empowering & discovering strengths and current resources that can be used in daily life. I tailor these theories or techniques to suit each individual and keep on ongoing open discussion about what is working or not working for the client.
Above all, I believe the counselling relationship to be more important than any counselling theory, therefore I always put the person first. Empathizing, listening, supporting, being with, and holding space for a client to explore in a confidential and professional environment is always my number one goal.
I currently meet with private adult and adolescent clients on a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to:
- Anxiety & Panic Attacks
- Asperger’s and Autism
- Dissatisfaction & Unfulfillment
- Family matters or conflict
- Grief & Loss
- Mood disorders
- Life transitions
- Relationship Issues
- Self-Esteem & Confidence
- Women’s issues
- Work related issues
Counselling Qualifications and Training:
During and after finishing my Master’s course, I worked therapeutically in a school designated for children with developmental differences, including the Autism Spectrum, ADHD, & Pervasive Developmental Disorder. After relocating to London, I began to counsel adults on a “Patient and Family” team at St. Joseph’s Hospice, supporting family members or caretakers of terminally ill Hospice patients. I now see private clients in London. I abide by the BACP code of ethics and good practice guidelines and am in regular monthly supervision. I am a life-long student and keep up to date with Continuing Education and current psychological research.
