Stressed, anxious or depressed?
Struggling to feel good about yourself in a way others wouldn’t know?
Unfulfilled or unhappy in your life or relationship(s)?
Coming to terms with something complex, painful or traumatic?
Therapy can be a first chance to put something into words, to feel heard and understood, to deal with a crisis or to come to terms with things you may have been struggling with for a long time.
I have more than 25 years’ experience working as an integrative psychotherapist and I believe that we all have the power to create change in our lives. Reaching out for help is the first step.
Integrative Therapy with Clare Pointon:
I offer you a safe confidential space in which you can:
- start to access and express difficult feelings
- consider any links these feelings may have to past experiences
- explore something you may be aware of as a problem or, if not, consider why life doesn’t feel the way you want it to
- learn new tools to cope
My integrative work uses:
- Psychodynamic thinking to consider the impact on you of your early experience.
- Humanistic theory and body awareness to help you connect to feelings now and to identify what kind of change you want to make.
- Mindfulness, breathwork and CBT techniques to support you going forward.
I work with anyone who wants help to bring about change in life. At City Therapy, this regularly includes legal professionals and those working in the financial, business, academic and media sectors. I also work with psychotherapy and counselling trainees required to undertake a course of therapy as part of this process.
Supervision with Clare Pointon
I am also an integrative supervisor offering sessions to both therapists and counsellors.

Former Journalist:
My first career was in journalism. In this part of my life I lived and worked in London, Europe and the Middle East as a BBC radio correspondent and newspaper journalist. Since training as a psychotherapist, I have written professionally on issues related to psychotherapy and counselling.
Some of the Issues I work with:
- Anxiety: Understanding the root causes, finding practical coping strategies.
- Depression: Finding words for feelings you have learned to keep a lid on, understanding where they come from and allowing release of new energy.
- Relationship Issues: Learning about your own unique way of relating to others, exploring what you want and how you may be stopping yourself from creating that.
- Family Issues: Understanding what you can do now about the impact on you of your original family unit where you learned your way of being in the world, but which may not have worked well, may have been distressing or abusive.
- Trauma: Dealing with the impact of a distressing or frightening event that has left a significant mark on you.
- Work Stress: Evolving strategies to manage the effect of change, expectations, deadlines, difficult interpersonal dynamics. Building assertiveness, self-confidence and considering work-life balance.
- Student Life: Learning to cope with a range of simultaneous stresses – academic, financial and social. Evolving healthy skills for living independently and building new relationships.
- Loss: Coming to terms with what has been lost – a person, relationship, job or home. Identifying its meaning for you and having a private space to grieve.
- Separation and Divorce: Working through difficult feelings while you consider if this is what you want and, if appropriate, supporting yourself to go through it and move on.
- Identity Issues: Working out who you are – in general, as a sexual being with or without a gender label – and exploring aspects of yourself that others may not yet see.
- Infertility: Exploring the options you have on what can be a very lonely journey, coming to terms with losses and supporting yourself during what is often expensive treatment with uncertain outcome.
- Parenting Issues: Whatever your own experience of being parented, developing strategies to deal with the complexities of parenting today, including single parenting and co-parenting.
- Therapy for Personal Development: Taking time to reflect a bit more deeply on your life, perhaps seeking more meaning from it.
